Education as preached by John Paul II - serves to humanize the individual, that is lets them become more and more humanlike through intellectual, moral and spiritual forces development. The topor observable nowadays in education, both in schooling and upbringing, requires a prompt response and restoration. It seems that F. Znaniecki concept of educating society and Johann F. Herbart educating teaching might be of great help here. The article analyzes the issue of catechists in school teaching in the light of the above mentioned concepts. This topic becomes more and more valid now that reasonableness of religion tutoring at school and the existence of catechists are being questioned.
